Transparent

This is a collaboration with the choreographer and dancer Ulrika Wedin. With Joakim Eneroth’s photo series Short Stories of the Transparent Mind as a base, Wedin created an independent dance piece : Transparent. An encounter between photography and choreography.

In this work, the human conscience is explored as well as the creative process of the meeting between two artistic disciplines. The focus lies on the elderly dancer and also on the ageing process of the human body. Transparent puts the old dancer ahead and lets the audience benefit from the rich expression that only this dancer can deliver. Presenting the dance performance during the same time period and in the same city as the photo exhibition, makes it possible for the audience to grasp various interpretations of the same topic. Furthermore, this makes it possible to follow the creative development and to perceive a third dimension; what happens when the works are joined togheter.

“For a long time I have followed the work of Joakim Eneroth; Short Stories of the Transparent Mind. Both of us move towards the same existential topics but through different forms of art. From his photographic work I created a choreographic work; an artistic project has grown out of the other one and has become in itself a new discipline. Eneroth puts the finger on something that fascinates me and with his images he succeeds to capture an intangible and almost mysterious subject in a frank and direct style. I find it very interesting that we share the visual expression, he through his photography and I through my dance. During nearly two years we spoke about a collaboration with Short Stories of the Transparent Mind as a starting point. Finally we carried this collaboration through”. Ulrika Wedin
